BEST PRACTICES
Digital File Checklist
Mustard Press accepts most digital file formats for printing. However, there are best practices you should follow to get your files ready for press. If you prepare your files using our step-by-step checklist below, you’ll ensure the shortest schedule and smoothest process possible.
Your Pre-Upload Checklist
One
It’s best practice to use vector programs like Adobe Illustrator to create logos and illustrations, and use pixel programs like Adobe Photoshop for images. Then use page layout programs like Adobe InDesign to set-up your job, design the text, and bring everything together.
Two
Your document should be the same as finished size (i.e. letterhead at 8.5” x 11” or business card at 2” x 3.5”).
Three
Extend bleeds .125” over the document size.
Four
Include all linked images by using the “collect for output” feature that is included in your application.
Five
All RGB images need to be converted to CMYK (or gray scale) preferably in a .tiff format.
Six
Images should have no less than a 250 dpi resolution placed at 100% (ie. 300 dpi resolution placed at 200% equals 150 dpi resolution).
Seven
All fonts, screen and printer (postscript and truetype) need be included.
Eight
When making PDFs:
- Set job options to “no compression”
- Embed all fonts and add .125” bleed
- No RGB images
- Minimum 250 dpi resolution
Nine
Create a folder that contains the job, all images and fonts and a PDF for proofing. Name the folder with the project title used in you job order form.
